Blood Gases, Arterial  (ABG)

Synonyms:  ABG
Specimen:  Arterial heparinized (ithium or sodium heparin) whole blood in a sealed syringe. Needle must be removed from syringe prior to submitting specimen for testing.
                        Volume:  2 mL
Minimum Volume:  500 microL
Collection:  Maintain anaerobic condition. Place on ice and transport to the laboratory immediately for testing.
Rejection Criteria:  Clotted or venous sample; improper labeling.
