Beta - 2 Microglobulin, Serum  (B2M S)

Specimen:  Blood; (1) SST (serum separator) or Red (no preservative) top vacutainer tube.
                        Volume:  Full primary tube
Minimum Volume:  0.5 mL serum
Collection:  If tube other than an SST collected, transfer serum to a tightly capped plastic aliquot tube within 2 hours of collection for transport. Refrigerate at 2-8°C.
Rejection Criteria:  Incorrect specimen type; improper labeling.

Methodology:  Immunochemiluminometric assay (ICMA)
Test Use:  Evaluate renal disease; tumor marker for certain types of malignancies
