Amino Acid Quantitative- Random Urine  (Ref Test)

Specimen:  Urine; random 10 mL urine in a urine container. Patients should not take antihistamines and oral contraceptives for 72 hours prior to specimen collection. Provide patient's age, sex, and brief clinical history.
                        Volume:  10 mL
Minimum Volume:  2 mL
Collection:  Urine; 10 mL in a urine container. Freeze at -20°C to transport to testing laboratory.
Rejection Criteria:  Contamination of urine with fecal material; improper labeling.

Methodology:  High-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) separation with postcolumn Ninhydrin quantitation
Test Use:  Evaluate inborn errors of metabolism for amino acid.
Additional Information:  Patients should not take antihistamines and oral contraceptives for 72 hours prior to specimen collection. ***Specimen may be sent to Greenwood Genetics upon request.
