Alpha-Fetoprotein, Maternal - Quad Screen  (AFPTRIPLE SCREEN)

Synonyms:  AFP triple screen; Prenatal Screening for Neural Tube Defect and Down Syndrome
Specimen:  Blood; (1) SST (serum separator) or Red (no preservative) top vacutainer tube. Specimens must be collected between 15 and 22 weeks gestation. Submit completed GGC or LabCorp patient information form with specimen.
                        Volume:  Full primary tube
Minimum Volume:  2 mL serum
Collection:  If tube other than an SST is collected, transfer serum to a tightly capped plastic aliquot tube within 2 hours of collection for transport. Refrigerate at 2-8°C for 6 days; freeze at -20°C for longer storage.
Rejection Criteria:  Sample collected prior to 15 weeks and after 22 weeks gestation; plasma sample, improper labeling.

Methodology: 
Test Use:  Screen for open neural tube defects, abdominal wall defects, and congenital nephrosis.
Additional Information:  Always collect prior to aminocentesis; Please complete patient information form to accommodate specimen.
Testing Includes:  AFP, human chorionic gonadotropin, unconjugated estriol, Inhibin A. Specimen normally sent to Greenwood Genetics for testing. Specimen may be forwarded to LabCorp upon request.
