Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy  (VITAMIN D)

Synonyms:  25 Hydroxycalciferol, 25-OH-D, Cholecalciferol Metabolite, Vitamin D3 Metabolite
Specimen:  Blood; (1) SST (serum separator), Red (no preservative), or Purple (EDTA) top vacutainer tube.
                        Volume:  Full primary tube
Minimum Volume:  0.3 mL
Collection:  If tube other than an SST is collected, transfer serum or plasma to a tightly capped plastic aliquot tube within 2 hours of collection for transport. Refrigerate at 2-8°C.
Rejection Criteria:  Use of Green (heparin) top vacutainer tube; improper labeling.
Reference Range:  See report
Methodology:  Immunochemiluminometric Assay (ICMA)
Test Use:  Rule out vitamin D deficiency.
Additional Information:  This is not the same as calcitriol or 1,25 dihydroxy vitamin D3. Calcitriol must be ordered separately.
