Varicella-Zoster Virus (VZV) Antibodies, IgG  (ZOSTER IGG)

Synonyms:  Chickenpox Titer, Herpes Zoster antibody, VZV IgG
Specimen:  Blood: (1) SST (serum separator) or Red (no preservative) top vacutainer tube.
                        Volume:  Full primary tube
Minimum Volume:  0.5 mL serum
Collection:  If tube other than an SST is collected, transfer serum to a tightly capped plastic aliquot tube within 2 hours of collection for transport. Maintain specimen at room temperature.
Rejection Criteria:  Hemolysis; lipemia; gross bacterial contamination; incorrect specimen type; improper labeling.
Reference Range:  Neg. < 0.90; Equiv: 0.91-1.09; Pos: > 1.10
Methodology:  Enzyme immunoassay (EIA)
Test Use:  Diagnose VZV infection; determine adult susceptibility to infection
Additional Information:  Most cases of varicella or zoster are clinically insignificant. Sometimes helpful in differential diagnosis of other blistering illnesses or when infection shows a complication.
