				| Specimen:   | Urine: 24 hour urine collection in a 24 hour container or any chemically clean container. Patient should be instructed how to collect a 24 hour urine. First morning specimen is acceptable (60 mL sample). |

				|                         Volume:   | 60 mL urine |

				| Minimum Volume:   | 12 mL urine |

				| Collection:   | Transport 24-hour urine or 60 mL aliquot to the laboratory as soon as possible. Urine aliquot may be submitted with documentation of 24-hour volume.
Refrigerate at 2-8°C. |

				| Rejection Criteria:   | Improper labeling. |

				| Reference Range:   | Normal |

				| Methodology:   | Electrophoresis |

				| Test Use:   | Detection of Bence-Jones proteinuria; classification of urine protein |

				| Additional Information:   | A serum protein electrophoresis should be ordered concurrently if one has not been recently studied. If abnormal protein is detected immunofixation will be performed. |
