Urine Myoglobin  (MYOGLOB UR)

Synonyms:  None listed
Specimen:  Urine; random 10 mL in a plastic urine container with no preservative. Random fresh, well mixed urine collected in the early morning or immediately following exercise is the specimen of choice.
                        Volume:  10 mL
Minimum Volume:  1 mL
Collection:  Transport urine to the laboratory as soon as possible. Urine should be refrigerated at 2-8°C.
Rejection Criteria:  Obvious contamination; gross hemolysis; plasma specimen; improper labeling.
Reference Range:  0-13 ng/mL
Methodology:  Immunochemiluminometric assay (ICMA
Test Use:  Differentiation of myoglobin from hemoglobin in urine specimens.
Additional Information:  Myoglobin is a protein from striated muscle. Myoglobinuria occurs with destruction of muscle in crush injuries, strenuous exercise, electric shock, MI, sea snake or fish poisoning.
