Fresh Frozen Plasma  (FFP)

Synonyms:  Fresh Frozen Plasma
Specimen:  Blood, (1) Purple (EDTA) top vacutainer tube is preferred but (1) Red (no preservative) top vacutianer tube is acceptable. Pre-Transfusion specimen labeling criteria must be met.
                        Volume:  Full primary tube
Minimum Volume:  Microtainer
Collection:  Specimen should be tested as soon as possible after collection. If delay in testing should occur, the specimen must be stored to 1-10°C. EDTA specimens may be tested up to 10 days and clotted specimens up to 21 days after collection.
Rejection Criteria:  Pre-transfusion specimen labeling criteria must be met.
Reference Range:  One unit contains about 200 units of Factor VIII and other labile plasma coagulation factors
Methodology: 
Test Use:  Source of labile and non-labile plasma factors
Additional Information:  Refer to Circular of Information for the use of Human Blood and Components for specific details. Product may be irradiated by physician request.
Testing Includes:  Patient's ABORh must be determined . Blood Bank ID bracelet must be placed on patient at time of specimen collection.
