Specimen: | Preferred specimen- Green (lithium heparin) PST tube.
SST (serum separator tube) or Red (no preservative) UNOPENED top vacutainer tube is acceptable.
DO Not collect sample using a tourniquet.
Whole blood should be analyzed within 15-30 minutes of collection. |
Volume: | 2 mL whole blood |
Minimum Volume: | 500 microL whole blood or heparinized plasma |
Collection: | Plasma is stable for one hour when centrifuged and 4 hours at 2-8. Serum is stable at room temp for up to 24 hours when SST is centrifuged and the cap is unopened. |
Rejection Criteria: | Clotted sample; incorrect specimen type; improper labeling. |

Additional Information: | For Venous collection - Remove tourniquet for 1 minute before collection. Samples should be collected under anaerobic conditions. Orders for serum will be referred to outside reference lab. |
