Calcium, Ionized  (CA ION)

Synonyms:  Ionized Calcium, whole blood or serum
Specimen:  Green (lithium heparin) PST tube or UNOPENED SST (serum separator tube). Whole blood should be analyzed within 15-30 minutes of collection.
                        Volume:  2 mL whole blood
Minimum Volume:  500 microL whole blood or heparinized plasma
Collection:  Plasma is stable 1 hour at room temperature and 4 hours at 2-8°C when tightly capped and centrifuged. For longer than 4 hours storage, a centrifuged UNOPENED SST (serum separator tube) is acceptable stored at 2-8°C.
Rejection Criteria:  Clotted sample; incorrect specimen type; improper labeling.
