Specimen: | Blood; (2) Purple (EDTA) top vacutainer tubes.
Bone Marrow Aspirate and Biopsy; 5 mL aspirate and 1 cm core of biopsy. Clean disposable petri dish with EDTA and B-Plus fixative in a plastic vial.
In order to provide the highest quality smears and the most viable flow specimens, it is best if bone marrows are performed Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 2:30 pm.

Volume: | 5 mL, 1 cm core of biopsy |
Minimum Volume: | 2 mL aspirate, 1 cm core of biopsy |
Collection: | Slides should be made immediately after collection and specimens should be transported to the laboratory as soon as possible.
Maintain specimens at room temperature. |
Rejection Criteria: | Improper labeling. |
Reference Range: | Interpretation by pathologist |
Methodology: | Standard Histologic/Hematologic techniques |
Test Use: | Evaluate bone marrow morphology, cellularity and iron studies. Establish presence of malignancies. |
