Body Fluid Analysis  (BF ANAL)

Synonyms:  BF Analysis
Specimen:  Fluid; 10 mL- divide sample into a Purple (EDTA) top vacutainer tube and a sterile container such as a urine container, falcon tubes or blue top conical tubes. DO NOT use a SST (serum separator) or Plastic Red top vacutainer tube.
                        Volume:  10 mL
Minimum Volume:  2 mL
Collection:  Transport specimen to the laboratory immediately after collection. If testing is delayed, refrigerate at 2-8°C. Tests must be performed within 24 hours of collection.
Rejection Criteria:  Imcorrect anticoagulant; Plastic Red top vacutainer tube; improper labeling.
Reference Range:  BF Appearance Pale-StrawBF TP 0-3.0 g/dLBF WBC 0-1000 /microLBF SG less than 1.016
Methodology: 
Test Use:  To differentiate transudative from exudative effusions.
