Bacterial Antigen Series -CSF  (BACT AG SCF)

Synonyms:  Bacterial Antigens for Meningitis, CSF
Specimen:  CSF; sumbit CSF in a sterile plastic CSF tube.
                        Volume:  1 mL CSF
Minimum Volume: 
Collection:  Refrigerate at 2-8°C. Specimen must be tested within 72 hours of collection.
Rejection Criteria:  Inadequate quantity; inappropriate transport device; hemolysis; lipemia; gross bacterial contamination; specimen received after prolonged delay (more than 72 hours); improper labeling.
Reference Range:  Negative
Methodology:  Latex Agglutination
Test Use:  Detection of bacterial antigens in CSF to aid in diagnosis of meningitis.
Additional Information:  Does not replace Gram Stain and culture. May be negative in early meningitis. Sensitivity of the tests vary from 50 - 100%.
Testing Includes:  Specimen sent to LabCorp. LabCorp test # 006890. Determination of presence of antigens to H. influenzae, S. pneumoniae, N. meningitidis, and group B Streptococcus.
