Trichomonas Vaginalis  ()

Synonyms:  Trichomonas vaginalis by PANTHER, Trichomonas vaginalis PCR or amplified testing
Specimen:  Endocervical samples; APTIMA Combo 2 swab collection device. Cervical brush sample in liquid-based cytology preservative (ThinPrep vial with PreservCyt solution). ThinPrep collection kits are available from AnMed Health Laboratory Services.

Rejection Criteria:  Inclusion of cleaning swab in APTIMA Combo 2 transport tube; no fluid in APTIMA Combo 2 transport tube; collection with swabs having wooden shafts. Specimens too old or improperly labeled; ThinPrep cannot be more than 30 days old.
Reference Range:  Negative for Trichomonas vaginalis
Methodology:  Nucleic acid amplification
Test Use:  Diagnosis of Trichomonas vaginalis infections
Additional Information:  Trichomonas vaginalis may be done from same ThinPrep vial used for Pap as in conjunction with other testing such as Chlamydia/GC and High Risk HPR.
