Specimen: | Blood; (1) Purple (EDTA) top vacutainer tube OR (2) Purple mictrotainers and (2) peripheral smears. |
Volume: | Full primary tube |
Minimum Volume: | 2 Purple microtainers |
Collection: | Transport whole blood to the laboratory within 4 hours of collection. If this is not possible, prepare 2 peripheral blood smears.
Maintain specimen and slides at room temperature for 24 hours; refrigerate at 2-8°C up to 48 hours. |
Rejection Criteria: | Clotted specimen; age of specimen; improper labeling. |
