Toxoplasma gondii Antibodies, IgG and IgM  (TOXO)

Synonyms:  Toxoplasmosis Antibodies
Specimen:  Blood: (1) SST (serum separator) or Red (no preservative)top vacutainer tube.
                        Volume:  Full primary tube
Minimum Volume:  2 mL
Collection:  If tube other than an SST is collected, transfer serum to a tightly capped plastic aliquot tube within 2 hours of collection for transport. Maintain specimen at room temperature
Rejection Criteria:  Hemolysis, lipemia, gross bacterial contamination, improper labeling.

Methodology:  Enzyme immunoassay (EIA)
Test Use:  Support the diagnosis of toxoplasmosis; document past exposure and/or immunity
Additional Information:  T. gondii is endemic in cats and is excreted by them. Congenital toxoplasmosis and infections in AIDS patients can be very serious.
Testing Includes:  Specimen sent to LabCorp. LabCorp test # 213561. Quantitative index result for both IgG and IgM antibodies.
