Tacrolimus  (TACROLIMUS)

Synonyms:  FK506; Prograf
Specimen:  Blood; (1) Purple (EDTA) top vacutainer tube. The time when blood is drawn relative to the last dose of tacrolimus should be noted to ensure proper interpretation of the results. A trough sample is recommended.
                        Volume:  Full primary tube
Minimum Volume:  0.3 mL
Collection:  Submit whole blood for testing. Refrigerate at 2-8°C for 7 days; freeze at -20°C for 6 months.
Rejection Criteria:  Incorrect specimen type; improper labeling.
Reference Range:  Critical values are not defined but overdose is associated with levels of 19�197 ng/mL.
Methodology:  Immunoassay
Test Use:  Tacrolimus has been for prophylaxis of organ rejection in adult patients undergoing liver or kidney transplantation and in pediatric patients undergoing liver transplantation. It has also been used to treat autoimmune diseases.
Additional Information:  Measurements are used as an aid in the managemnt of therapy.
