Stool for Reducing Substances  (RED SUB ST)

Specimen:  Stool: 5 grams or 5 mL fresh specimen in a clean leak-proof container. Preserved specimens are unacceptable.
                        Volume:  5 gm or 5 mL
Minimum Volume:  1 gm or 1 mL
Collection:  Transport to the laboratory within 2 hours of collection if kept at room temperature. Freeze specimen as soon as possible after collection..
Rejection Criteria:  Preserved stool, improper label, diapers, stool containing barium.
Reference Range:  Negative (<0.25%)
Methodology:  Semi-quantitative colorimetry
Test Use:  Detect deficiency of enzymes (disaccharidases) due to congenital deficiency or mucosal injury.
Additional Information:  Test results will change over time. Freezing recommended if delay >2 hours before analysis.
