Rickettsial Latex Antibodies  (NY LATEX R)

Synonyms:  Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (RMSF) Latex, New York Latex
Specimen:  Blood; (1) SST (serum separator) or Red (no preservative) top vacutainer. The test detects antibodies within 7-9 days of disease onset, and should be used to detect active infection.
                        Volume:  Full primary tube
Minimum Volume:  500 microL serum
Collection:  Refrigerate at 2-8°C up to 5 days; freeze at -20°C for longer storage.
Rejection Criteria:  Hemolysis; plasma specimens; lipemia; bacterial contamination; bilirubin; improper labeling.

Methodology:  Latex agglutination
Test Use:  Establish serologic diagnosis of infection due to RMSF
Additional Information:  The test detects antibodies within 7-9 days of disease onset, and should be used to detect active infection.
Testing Includes:  If positive, a titer is reflexed.
