Quinidine  (QUINIDINE)

Specimen:  Blood; (1) Red (no preservative) or Green (heparin) top vacutianer tube. Do not collect an SST (serum separator).
                        Volume:  7 mL primary tube
Minimum Volume:  0.3 mL serum
Collection:  Transfer separated serum or plasma to a tighlty capped plastic aliquote tube. Peak: quinidine sulfate: 11/2 hours after dose, quinidine gluconate: four hours after dose; trough: immediately prior to next dose; after change in dose: one to two days. Refrigerate at 2-8°C
Rejection Criteria:  Gel-barrier tube; severe hemolysis; lipemia; icteric specimen; improper labeling.
Reference Range:  Therapeutic = 2.0-5.0 ug/mL Potentially Toxic: greater than 5.0 ug/mL
Methodology:  Immunoassay
Test Use:  Treatment of supraventricular and ventricular arrythmias.
