Primidone  (PRIMIDONE)

Synonyms:  Mysoline
Specimen:  Blood; (1) Red (no preservative) or Green (heparin) top vacutainer tube. Do Not use a SST (serum separator). Collect specimen immediately prior to next dose.
                        Volume:  Full primary tube
Minimum Volume:  0.3 mL serum or plasma
Collection:  Transfer serum or plasma to a tighlty capped plastic aliquot tube for transport. Refrigerate at 2-8°C.
Rejection Criteria:  Serum separator tube; severe hemolysis; lipemia; icteric specimen; improper labeling.
Reference Range:  Therapeutic: primidone: 5.0-12.0 μg/mL, phenobarbital: 15-40 μg/mL
Methodology:  Immunoassay
Test Use:  Treatment of seizure disorders.
Additional Information:  If drawn in a serum separation tube, remove serum from gel within 1 hour.
