Specimen: | Urine; random 2 mL in a urine container protected from light. |
Volume: | 2 mL urine |
Minimum Volume: | 1.5 mL urine |
Collection: | Submit urine in an amber colored container or wrap completely in tin foil.
Refrigerate 1t 2-8°C. |
Rejection Criteria: | Stored specimen not refrigerated; specimen exposed to light; acid preservative; pH less than 3; improper labeling. |

Methodology: | High-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) with fluorometric detection. |
Test Use: | Diagnosis of porphyrias |
Additional Information: | Clinician may elect to order a 24 hour urine quantitation if screen is positive. |
