Platelet, Pheresis  (Apher Plt)

Synonyms:  Apheresis Platelets
Specimen:  Blood; (1) Purple (EDTA) top vacutainer tube. Blood Bank I.D. bracelet must be placed on patient at time of specimen collection.
                        Volume:  Full primary tube
Minimum Volume:  Microtainer
Collection:  Refrigerate at 2-8°C for 3 days.
Rejection Criteria:  Pre-transfusion specimen labeling criteria not met.
Reference Range:  One unit can be expected to increase platelet count of a 70 Kg adult by 30,000 to 60,000/mL Each unit contains more than 3.0 x 10
Methodology:  Automated cell separator
Test Use:  To improve hemostasis, increase platelet count in patients who are refractory to random donor platelets

Testing Includes:  Patient's ABO/Rh must be determined. Blood Bank I.D. bracelet must be placed on patient at time of specimen collection.
