| Specimen: | Blood; (1) SST (serum separator) or Red (no preservative) top vacutainer tube. |
| Volume: | Full primary tube |
| Minimum Volume: | 2 mL serum |
| Collection: | If tube other than an SST is collected, transfer serum to a tightly capped plastic aliquot tube within 2 hours of collection for transport.
Refrigerate at 2-8°C.

| Rejection Criteria: | Gross hemolysis; lipemia; improper labeling. |

| Methodology: | Indirect Fluorescent Antibody (IFA); enzyme immunoassay (EIA) |
| Test Use: | Detect antibodies to nuclear antigens present in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and other auto-immune diseases. |
| Additional Information: | Specimens with ANA titer > 1:160 and any type of pattern are referred for additional testing. Peripheral (RIM) pattern also gets additional testing. |
| Testing Includes: | ANA screen; titer and pattern if positive. Reflective testing for anti-ds-DNA, anti-SS-A, anti-SS-B, anti-RNP, anti-Smith, anti-histone, and anti-SCL-70 antibodies if titer and pattern meet criteria. Specimen sent to LabCorp. LabCorp test # 282434 |
