MS Panel  (MS PANEL)

Synonyms:  MS Profile
Specimen:  Blood: (1) SST (serum separator) or Red (no preservative) top vacutainer tube. CSF: CSF in a sterile CSF tube. Collect both specimens at the same time.
Volume:  2 mL serum (2 tubes) and 2.5 mL CSF (2 tubes)
Minimum Volume:  1.0 mL serum and 1.0 mL CSF
Collection:  If tube other than an SST is collected, transfer serum to a tightly capped plastic aliquot tube within 2 hours of collection. Submit 2 tubes of serum. 1st tube=1.5 mL and 2nd tube= 0.5 mL. Refrigerate both serum tubes. Submit 2 tubes of CSF. Centrifuge CSF at 2000xg at refrigerated temperature for five minutes. 1st tube= 1 mL (refrigerated) and 2nd tube= 1.5 mL (frozen).
Rejection Criteria:  Plasma instead of serum specimen; serum and CSF not collected within eight hours of each other; CSF not received frozen; improper labeling.
Reference Range:  See report
Methodology:  MBP: enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA); oligoclonal banding: IEF; CSF IgG, CSF albumin, and serum IgG: immunologic; serum albumin: spectrophotometry; synthesis rate, ratio, and index by calculation
Test Use:  Adjunct in aiding clinical diagnosis of multiple sclerosis.
Additional Information:  No Additional Information Listed
Testing Includes:  IgG and albumin quantitation in both serum and spinal fluid samples; CSF IgG:CSF albumin ratio; CSF IgG index; CSF IgG synthesis rate; myelin basic protein (CSF); oligoclonal banding. Sent to LabCorp. LabCorp test # 092080.
