Mononucleosis Serology  (MONO)

Synonyms:  Mono, Infectious Mono Antibody
Specimen:  Whole blood ONLY; Purple (EDTA) top vacutainer tube
                        Volume:  Full primary tube
Minimum Volume:  500 microL
Collection:  Whole Blood samples must be tested within 24 hours of collection. Refrigerate at 2-8 C.
Rejection Criteria:  Hemolysis; bacterial contamination; improper labeling.
Reference Range:  Negative
Methodology:  Latex agglutination
Test Use:  Detect heterophile antibodies related to infectious mononucleosis
Additional Information:  A positive test in the presence of consistent clinical and/or hematologic findings confirms the diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis.
