Microalbumin, Timed Urine, Quantitation  (Ref Test)

Synonyms:  None listed
Specimen:  Urine; 24 hour urine collected in a 24 hour collection container. Do not use any preservative. Instruct patient on proper 24 hour urine collection procedure.
                        Volume:  10 mL aliquot
Minimum Volume:  1 mL aliquot
Collection:  pH must be 4-7. Submit 10 mL urine aliquot for testing. Record 24 hour volume on request form. Refrigerate at 2-8 degrees C.
Rejection Criteria:  Bloody specimen; improper labeling.
Reference Range:  Normal: 0-30 mg/day Microalbuminaria: 30-300 mg/day Clinical albuminaria: greater than 300 mg/day
Methodology:  Immunoturbidimetric
Test Use:  This test is useful in the management of patients with relatively early diabetes mellitus to assist in avoiding or delaying the onset of diabetic renal disease.
Additional Information:  A 3-hour timed collection is also acceptable for testing
