Synonyms:  Microalb
Specimen:  Urine; freshly voided morning midstream urine in a urine container. Submit 3 separate morning (midstream) samples within a given week.
                        Volume:  5 mL
Minimum Volume:  200 microL
Collection:  Refrigerate at 2-8°C for 14 days.
Rejection Criteria:  Obvious contamination; improper labeling.
Reference Range:  Level 1=0-20 mg/L Level 2=20-100 mg/L
Methodology:  Dipstick
Test Use:  Screen for prediction of subsequent development of proteinuria, diabetic nephropathy, and early mortality in Type I and/or Type II diabetes.
Additional Information:  This test is meant to be performed in replicate, preferably 3 morning midstream samples. A single result, positive or negative, should not be considered diagnostic.
