Lyme Disease Antibodies, Total and IgM  (LYME AB)

Synonyms:  Borrelia burgdorferi antibodies, Lyme Ab
Specimen:  Blood; (1) SST (serum separator) or Red (no preservative) top vacutainer tube.
                        Volume:  Full primary tube
Minimum Volume:  1 mL serum
Collection:  If tube other than an SST is collected, transfer serum to a tightly capped plastic aliquot tube within 2 hours of collection for transport. Maintain specimen at room temperature.
Rejection Criteria:  Hemolysis; Lipemia; gross bacterial contamination; improper labeling.
Reference Range:  Negative
Methodology:  Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA)
Test Use:  Aid in diagnosis of acute or chronic infection with the Lyme disease agent.
Additional Information:  Combination of IgM and IgM/IgG testing can provide earliest and broadest window for serological detection. Western blot confirmation is recommended for positive results.
