Lupus Type Anticoagulant  (LUP ANTI)

Synonyms:  Lupus Anticoagulant; Lupus Anticoagulant Screen
Specimen:  Blood; (1) Blue (sodium citrate) top vacutainer tube. Patient preparation: Avoid warfarin (Coumadin®) therapy for two weeks and heparin therapy for two days prior to the test.
                        Volume:  Full primary tube
Minimum Volume:  2 mL plasma
Collection:  Citrated plasma samples should be collected by double centrifugation. Centrifuge for 10 minutes and carefully remove 2/3 of the plasma using a plastic transfer pipette, being careful not to disturb the cells. Deliver to a plastic transport tube, cap, and recentrifuge for 10 minutes. Use a second plastic pipette to transfer plasma to a plastic purple screw-capped aliquot tube and freeze. Specimen must remain frozen until tested.
Rejection Criteria:  Hemolysis; clotted specimen; specimen contaminated with heparin; specimen received unfrozen: improper labeling.
Reference Range:  See report
Methodology:  PTT-LA (lupus-senstive APTT) and DRVVT screen, mixing study if screening tests are prolonged; confiramtion if the mixing study does not coorelate.
Test Use:  The qulaitative detection of lupus anticoaulants in plasma
