Lipid Risk Profile  (LIPID PROF)

Synonyms:  Lipid Profile
Specimen:  Blood; (1) SST (serum separator), Red (no preservative), or Green (lithium heparin) top vacutainer tube. Patient should be fasting.
                        Volume:  Full primary tube
Minimum Volume:  1.5 mL serum/plasma
Collection:  If tube other than an SST is collected, transfer serum or plasma to a tightly capped plastic aliquot tube within 2 hours of collection for transport. Refrigerate at 2-8 °C for 7 days.
Rejection Criteria:  Hemolysis; improper labeling.

Methodology: 
Test Use:  Evaluate hyperlipidemia as an index to coronary artery disease. Patients with obstructive liver disease may develop lipoprotein abnormalities. Serum lipid factors have not been demostrated to have a strong influence on recurrent stenosis following coron

Testing Includes:  Triglycerides, HDL, Total Cholesterol with calculated LDL and VLDL. Risk Factor is calculated.
