Lidocaine  (LIDO)

Synonyms:  Xylocaine
Specimen:  Blood; (1) Red (no preservative) or Green (heparin) top vacutainer tube. Do Not use an SST tube. Draw specimen 12 hours after initiating therapy for arrhythmia prophylaxis, then every 24 hours thereafter. Obtain specimens every 12 hours when cardiac or hepatic insufficiency exists.
                        Volume:  Full primary tube
Minimum Volume:  300 microL serum/plasma
Collection:  Transfer serum or plasma to a tightly capped plastic aliquot tube within 2 hours of collection for transport. Refrigerate at 2-8°C.
Rejection Criteria:  SST (serum separator) vacutainer tube; hemolysis, gross lipemia, gross icterus; improper labeling.
Reference Range:  Therapeutic = 1.5-6.0 ug/mL Potentially toxic: > 5 ug/mL
Methodology:  Immunoassay
Test Use:  Supression of ventricular ectopy and hemodynamically stable ventricular tachycardia during acute myocardical infarction
Additional Information:  If collected in a SST(serum-separator tube), remove serum within one hour.
