Amylase Isoenzymes  (AMY ISO)

Synonyms:  Amylase fractionation; Isoamylase
Specimen:  Blood; (1) SST (serum separator), Red (no preservative)or Green (heparin) top vacutainer tube. Serum is the preferred specimen type.
                        Volume:  2 mL
Minimum Volume:  1 mL serum
Collection:  If tube other than an SST or PST (plasma separator tube) is collected, transfer serum or plasma to a tightly capped plastic aliquot tube within 2 hours of collection for transport. Maintain specimen at room temperature.
Rejection Criteria:  Hemolysis; use of anticoagulants other than lithium heparin ; improper labeling.
Reference Range:  Salivary (S): 0-70%; Pancreatic(P): 0-55%
Methodology:  Cellulose acetate electrophoresis
Test Use:  Evaluate parotitis and pancreatic disease
