HIV Rapid Test  (NSP HIV Q)

Synonyms:  Rapid HIV Test
Specimen:  Blood; (1) Purple top vacutainer tube preferred. Serum may be used. Rapid screening test for antigen and antibodies to HIV-1 and HIV-2 antibodies following accidental exposure to human blood or body fluid (Needle Stick Protocol).
                        Volume:  Full primary tube
Minimum Volume:  1 mL
Collection:  Submit whole blood for testing
Rejection Criteria:  Lipemic, icteric, hemolyzed specimen; improper labeling or incorrect specimen type.
Reference Range:  Negative
Methodology:  Microfiltration Enzyme immunoassay
Test Use:  Rapid screening test for antibodies to HIV-1 following accidental exposure to human blood or body fluid (Needle Stick Protocol)
Additional Information:  Reactive test will be confirmed by Western Blot (sent to reference lab).
