Hepatitis B Surface Antibody Titer  (HBSAB)

Synonyms:  Anti-HBs, HBsAb, Hepatitis Bs Antibody
Specimen:  Blood; (1) SST (serum separator), Red (no preservative) or Purple (EDTA) top vacutainer tube.
                        Volume:  Full primary tube
Minimum Volume:  2 mL serum/plasma/recalcified plasma
Collection:  If tube other than an SST is collected, transfer serum to a tightly capped plastic aliquot tube within 2 hours of collection for transport. Refrigerate at 2-8°C for 7 days.
Rejection Criteria:  Non-EDTA plasma specimen; PST gel-barrier tube; improper labeling.
Reference Range:  Negative, unless immunized
Methodology:  Immunochemiluminometric assay (ICMA)
Test Use:  Detect antibody of Hepatitis B Virus, determine immune status.
Additional Information:  This is the test to order after completing Hepatitis B immunization. HbsAb Positive: This indicates the presence of Hepatitis B surface antibody. When naturally acquired, this indicates development of post-infectious immunity and recovery. This will be
