Group B Strep Antigen - Serum  (STR B AG)

Synonyms:  Beta-Strep (Group B) Antigen
Specimen:  Blood; (1) SST (serum separator) or Red (no preservative) top vacutainer tube.
                        Volume:  Full primary tube
Minimum Volume:  200 microL serum
Collection:  If tube other than an SST is collected, transfer serum to a tightly capped plastic aliquot tube within 2 hours of collection for transport. Refrigerate at 2-8 °C.
Rejection Criteria:  Improper labeling.
Reference Range:  Negative
Methodology:  Latex agglutination (LA)
Test Use:  Detection of bacterial antigens to group B Streptococcus
Additional Information:  Group B Streptococcus is a significant pathogen, particularly in neonates. Sensitivity of the test varies depending on concentration of antigen in specimen.
