Group A Beta Strep ID  (STREP A ID)

Synonyms:  Rapid Strep A, Direct Strep A
Specimen:  Throat;culture swab Do not use swabs with calcium alginate, cotton tips, or wooden shafts. For pediatric patients 18 yrs old or younger, use CultureSwab device and submit 2 swabs to permit reflexing of a negative test to a throat culture.
                        Volume:  2 swabs for pediatric patients (18 or younger)
Minimum Volume: 
Collection:  Maintain at room temperature for 8 hours; refrigerate at 2-8°C for 72 hours.
Rejection Criteria:  Incorrect collection device; improper labeling.
Reference Range:  Negative
Methodology:  Lateral-flow Immunoassay
Test Use:  Rapid detection of Group A Beta Strep antigen. Negative results will reflex to a throat culture if 2 swabs are submitted.
Additional Information:  Pediatric patients get a throat culture automatically with negative results with proper submission of specimen.
