Specimen:  Blood; (1) SST (serum separator), Red (no preservative), Green (lithium heparin or Gray (sodium fluoride and potassium oxalate) top vacutainer tube. Label tubes with the collection times. A fasting glucose is drawn and analyzed. If the fasting glucose does not exceed 140 mg/dL, a 75 gram glucose drink is administered. Collect another specimen 2 hours after completion of drink.
                        Volume:  Full primary tube

Rejection Criteria:  Gross hemolysis; improper labeling.

Test Use:  Glucose values above the normal reference range but below the criteria defined for Diabetes mellitus or for impaired glucose tolerance are not diagnostic. Use of the oral GTT is not recommended for predicating complication of Diabetes Mellitus; its use i
Additional Information:  This protocol is the current glucose tolerance recommended by the American Diabetic Asociation. Diagnosis of diabetes mellitus may also be made with a fasting glucose of >126 mg/dl and a casual glucose of >200 mg/dl on a subsequent day in the presence of
