Glucose 6 Phosphate Dehydrogenase  (G6PD)

Synonyms:  G-6-PD, G-6-PDH
Specimen:  Blood; (2) Purple (EDTA) OR (1) Green (heparin) and (1) (EDTA) OR (1) Yellow (ACD) and (1) Purple (EDTA) top vacutainer tube.
                        Volume:  8 mL (4 mL in each of two tubes)
Minimum Volume:  500 microL whole blood
Collection:  Refrigerate whole blood at 2-8°C for up to 48 hours.
Rejection Criteria:  Clotted specimen; hemolysis; insufficient specimen; frozen specimen; specimen more than 48 hours old, improper labeling.
Reference Range:  146-376 units/trillion RBC
Methodology:  Kinetic − 340 nm
Test Use:  Diagnosis of G6PD deficiency and associated hemolytic anemias
