Specimen: | Blood; (1) SST (serum separator), Red (no preservative), Green (lithium heparin) or Gray (sodium flouride and potassium oxalate) top vacutainer tube.
Urine; random or 24 hour collection. Patient should be instructed how to collect a 24 hour urine if ordered.
CSF; collect in a sterile CSF tube. |
Volume: | Full primary tube for blood or leak proof specimen container for fluids. |

Collection: | If tube other than an SST or PST (plasma separator tube)is collected, transfer serum or plasma to a tightly capped plastic aliquot tube for transport within 2 hours of collection.
Refrigerate serum, plasma, urine and CSF samples at 2-8°C for 7 days; sodium fluoride and potassium oxalate is stable at room temperature for 24 hours. |
