Specimen: | Aspirate, biopsy, sputum, bronchial washing, or tissue.
2 grams of tissue or 5 mL fluid submitted in a sterile leak proof container.
State specific source and avoid the use of swabs for collection. |
Volume: | 2 grams tissue; 5 mL fluid |
Minimum Volume: | 1 mL or 1 gm |
Collection: | Transport to the laboratory as soon as possible. Maintain at room temperature, do not refrigerate. |
Rejection Criteria: | Improper labeling. |
Reference Range: | No fungal elements seen |

Test Use: | Determine presence or absence of fungal elements in specimens by direct examination |
Additional Information: | Use sterile preparation and avoid contamination of specimen with commensal organisms. Avoid use of swabs. Fibers can introduce artifacts making interpretation more difficult. |
