Epstein Barr Virus Screen  (EBV SCREEN)

Synonyms:  EBV Screen, EBV Acute Infection Antibodies
Specimen:  Blood; (1) SST (serum separator) or red(no preservative) Red top vacutainer tube.
                        Volume:  2 mL
Minimum Volume:  1 mL
Collection:  If tube other than an SST is collected, transfer serum to a tightly capped plastic aliquot tube within 2 hours of collection for transport. Maintain specimen at room temperature.
Rejection Criteria:  Incorrect specimen type; improper labeling.

Methodology:  Multiplex bead flow cytometry
Test Use:  Differentiation of acute from chronic or reactivated infections with Epstein-Barr virus.
Additional Information:  Epstein-Barr virus is a herpes group virus which is ubiquitous. It is the cause of classic infectious mononucleosis.
Testing Includes:  Specimen sent to LabCorp. LabCorp test # 216655 EBV-EA, IgG; EBV-VCA, IgG; EBV-VCA, IgM; Epstein-Barr nuclear antigen antibodies (EBNA); interpretation.
