Direct Antiglobulin Test  (DAT or DAT CORD (cord blood))

Synonyms:  Direct Coombs
Specimen:  Blood; (1) Purple (EDTA) top vacutainer tube.
                        Volume:  Full primary tube
Minimum Volume:  Full primary tube
Collection:  Perform test within 24 hours of collection.
Rejection Criteria:  Incorrect specimen type; age of specimen; improper labeling.
Reference Range:  Negative
Methodology:  Manual Test Tube - Antiglobulin Test
Test Use:  Detects in vivo coating of IgG and/or complement on red blood cells
Additional Information:  Positive test associated with hemolytic transfusion reaction, auto immune disease, drug therapy or hemolytic disease of the newborn.
Testing Includes:  Tests red cells with polyspecific anti human globulin serum. Positive cells are further tested with monospecific anti-IgG.
