Dexamethasone Suppression (Depression)  (DEXA SUP DP)

Specimen:  Blood; (1) SST (serum separator) or Red (no preservative) top vacutainer tube. On Day 1, baseline cortisols are collected at 800 and 1600. A 1 mg dose of dexamethasone is administered at 2300 and additional cortisols levels are drawn on Day 2 at 0800, 1600, and 2300.
                        Volume:  Full primary tube for each cortisol collection.
Minimum Volume:  200 microL serum
Collection:  Outpatients must be scheduled through First Call at (864)512-2255. To schedule Inpatients, call extension 1377. If tube other than an SST (serum separator) is collected, transfer serum to a tightly capped plastic aliquot tube within 2 hours of collection for transport. Refrigerate at 2-8°C for 7 days.
Rejection Criteria:  Incorrect collection procedure; improper labeling.
