Chlamydia/Gonococcus by Nucleic Acid Amplification, NAA  (CT/GC)

Synonyms:  GC/Chlamydia
Specimen:  Endocervical, urethral, throat and rectal samples using APTIMA Combo 2 swab; Urine: Minimum 5mL and no more than 30 mL of first-catch urine stream (dirty catch) collected in a sterile urine container or transfer urine to the APTIMA urine specimen transport tube within 24 hours of collection. Gynecological specimens collected in PreservCyt solution; APTIMA specimen transfer kit. Eye specimen collection is acceptable but will be sent to LabCorp for testing. Collection:  APTIMA Combo 2 Swabs- refrigerate at 2-8°C or room temp after collection Urine specimens in the APTIMA specimen transport tube maintain at 2 to 30°C; must be tested within 30 days of collection.
Rejection Criteria:  Incorrect collection, inappropriate source or incorrect collection unit. Eye specimens and specimens collected on adolescents less than 14 years old, WILL be performed at LabCorp. Urine – more than 30 mL of urine is too dilute to test.
Reference Range:  Negative for Chlamydia and GC
Methodology:  Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT)
Test Use:  Diagnosis of Chlamydia trachomatis and/or Neisseria gonorrhoeae infections
Additional Information:  Age limit – Specimens collected on adolescents less than 14 years old WILL NOT be tested by AnMed. These will be sent to LabCorp. First catch female urine specimens are acceptable but detect up to 10% fewer organisms.
Testing Includes:  Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae. May be ordered separately.
