Carbamazepine  (CARBA)

Synonyms:  Tegretol
Specimen:  Blood; (1) Red (no preservative) Collect specimen prior to dose.
                        Volume:  Full primary tube
Minimum Volume:  200 microL serum
Collection:  T ransfer to a tightly capped plastic aliquot tube for transport Refrigerate at 2-8°C.
Rejection Criteria:  Incorrect specimen type; quantity not sufficient for testing; improper labeling.
Reference Range:  Therapeutic range used at AnMed Health: 4-12 microg/mL Critical Value= greater than 15 microg/mL
Methodology: 
Test Use:  Used for therapeutic monitoring of carbamazepine treatment.
Additional Information:  Submit last dosage information. Trough- Draw 30 minutes prior to dose. Peak- Draw approximately 3 hours after dose of chronic oral therapy.
